Rain halts Kent harvest

John Beslee at Hook green Farm in Southfleet, Kent has been halted from harvesting by 5mm rain this morning (August 5).

Sixty hectares of Cordiale winter wheat yielded 7.5t/ha. Mr Beslee was a bit disappointed as the crop did not fill out, although it was the first year he had grown the variety.

He had started to cut Solstice wheat yesterday which looked better than Cordiale because the grain was bolder, and the heads of the wheat were bigger.
