Reasonable prospects for Kent spring barley
Brian Mummery of Great Pett Farm, near Canterbury said that his spring barley was looking better than other crops, despite a difficult season. “It’s not fantastic, but it is reasonable.”
He had 40ha of Tipple and 80ha of Optic which he said looked ok, but would not be ripe for another 14 days. There was some secondary tillering, but he hoped it would mostly sort itself out.
Mr Mummery thought the growing season had been beneficial for spring barley, although he expected harvesting to be later. “I’m getting ready for the harvest, but I’m also looking for less to do,” he ended.
