Mr Podd said: “We were combining well on Saturday afternoon.”

The Pearl came in roughly at 7.41 t/ha (3 t/acre), which was expected and had a moisture content of 17%.

Nitrogen content “is middle of the band” at 1.63%.

“The rain hasn’t affected the quality of the crop at all,” said Mr Podd.

This was the first year Mr Podd had grown winter barley for some time.

“Since we bought our own combine last year, we are trying to spread the harvest and also spread the risk.”
