Richard’s final wheat his best

Richard Kane finished harvest at Brosglasgow House, Myroe, Londonderry, on Thursday (25 September) and was clearing up the straw today.

“There’s less than 5% left to do in the area – most people are finished cutting,” he said.

“The last of my wheat was the best – it was on the best field and was the slowest to ripen.”

But overall yields were below average at 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre).

Mr Kane’s spring barley yielded about average at 6.2t/ha (2.5t/acre), and most made the grade for seed.

However, having cut the wheat and barley so wet, it would take five or six days more to dry it all, he said.

All Mr Kane’s oilseed rape was drilled and growing, and he was now on ploughing ready to drill winter cereals.

Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
