Robert’s wheat too wet in Angus
Robert Ramsay tried to combine some wheat today (12 September) at West Mains of Kinblethmont, Arbroath, Angus, but at over 25% moisture decided to stop again.
“In this little neck of the woods we’ve been relatively lucky,” he said. He only had 15ha (37 acres) to finish off.
“A lot of people who were well kitted up have finished and are into potatoes. Others have got three to four days left.”
Yields had been well above average, with little to pick between the varieties, said Mr Ramsay.
Spring barley yields were only average, and germination was touch-and-go, he added.
Rape yields had been good, and this year Mr Ramsay had switched to high erucic varieties, which were now all in the ground.
