Shrops barley better than expected

Things had gone better than expected for Rob Waterstone of Heath House Farm, Beckbury, Shropshire.

Carat winter barley cut at 7.5t/ha which he said was very good and looked a nice bold sample. But he added: “It’s a shame it’s not worth more.”

The 11-12% moisture meant crops may have lost a bit of weight, but it was good news that he did not need to use the dryer.

Mr Waterstone said: “The year before last wasn’t a good year for us so this is one of the better years.”
