Slow going in Stirlingshire – harvest update

“At the moment we are just snatching a day when we can – progress is pretty slow,” he said.

Mr Adam was working until 1.30am on Sunday night (Aug 22) in order to get the last of his spring barley done.

The crop was given a pre-harvest glyphosate treatment, which he says proved to be “a good move”.

Despite the wet weather, “moisture contents all came in below 19%, even by the time we finished in the early hours”.

Average yields were 2.5t/acre, but there were some concerns over split and sprouting grains.

Mr Adam is more concerned over the remaining 15ha (37acres) of wheat still to combine, which he believes could be a “salvage job – it‘s a mess.”
