Soissons has a good yield in Slough

Soissons is yielding reasonably well in Slough, where Stephen Whitby started combining yesterday (22 July).

“It’s running ok at about 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), which is about average,” he said. “It is not all fit but it looks good – it’s 14% moisture but we haven’t had any sample results back yet.”

With 20ha (50 acres) cut yesterday, Mr Whitby was starting again this afternoon, with 202ha (500 acres) to do in total. He expected to start on the 12ha (30 acres) of winter barley tomorrow. “It’s still green in places.”

That would be followed by a neighbour’s oilseed rape next week, 32ha (80 acres) of Tipple spring barley and 142ha (350 acres) of Battalion, Solstice and Glasgow winter wheat.
