Stephen Moore adds a touch of Claas for harvest

Two Claas combines cleaned up 40ha (100 acres) of Flagon winter barley at Stephen Moore’s Manor Farm, Stapleford, Wilts on Tuesday and Wednesday this week (14/15 July).

Combine sharing with his neighbour, Mr Moore averaged 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre) on half the land, and 8t/ha (3.5t/acre) on the rest. “We’re really pleased – it’s a good start and the quality is good,” he said. Coming in at full specification, he sold the Flagon for £170/t.

The 202ha (500 acres) of oilseed rape was about 10 days away (28 July), and would be followed by the Alchemy, Sahara and Viscount winter wheat. “The wheats in this area are full of disease,” said Mr Moore. “The Viscount is for seed and that looks quite pleasing.”

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
