Stop-start in Norfolk

Frequent rain showers have caused a “sporadic harvest” in Downham Market, Norfolk, for Nick Pratt.

Quality of Cocktail spring barley was very good, he said, with 1.5-1.75% nitrogen, 1- 3% screenings and good germination. One hundred hectares yielded 6t/ha, with some parts up to 6.5-7t/ha.

Mr Pratt has cut 18ha of Cordiale winter wheat out of 100ha, which yielded 7.25t/ha. He was pleased with 20ha of first wheat Access yielding 8.2t/ha.

While wheat, spring barley, beans and linseed remain to be cut, he has already drilled 25ha of Winner oilseed rape on very heavy land.
