Suffolk crops ripening nicely

Prospects were “not looking too bad” for Gerald Godfrey at Great Common Farm in Suffolk.

The 34ha of Carat barley was “ripening nicely”, and although the different growth stages meant it had to be sprayed, he hoped it would be ready by next week (w/c July 25).

The oilseed rape on a neighbour’s farm looked “promising overall” and would be ready by the end of the week.

Mr Godfrey said: “We were lucky with the weather because we missed the [recent] heavy rain that some others had.”
