With this year’s sugar beet harvest quickly approaching, the factory intake opening dates are as follows:
- Wissington: 15 September
- Bury St Edmunds: 29 September
- Newark: 29 September
- Cantley: 6 October
Dan Green, British Sugar’s agriculture director, said: “As we look ahead to this year’s campaign, we look forward to working together with growers, harvesters and hauliers.
“We’d like to wish everyone across the British beet sugar industry all the best for a safe and successful campaign.”
Together, the four factories can produce up to 1.2m tonnes of sugar each year, generating more than 27 different sugar and co-products while producing less than 200g of waste for every tonne of beet processed.
Sugar beet growers, hauliers, and industry partners have been informed of factory intake times via email and through British Sugar’s online platform, My British Sugar.
British Sugar is the only company that processes the UK’s beet sugar crop, partnering with around 2,300 growers throughout the east of England, East Midlands and Yorkshire.
