Sunshine allows harvesting to continue in Sussex

Sussex farmer James Fuggle was combining SW Dalguise winter oats at Chessons Farm, Wadhurst, this morning.

After finishing his barley, Mr Fuggle was half way through harvesting oats. He was pleased with bushel weights of around 50kg/hl, although expected yields to be lower generally. Moisture contents were at 11-14% and samples appeared weathered.

He said despite land being very moist underfoot, harvesting progress was alright.

He was grateful for the break from the rain and said, “We’ve still got a long way to go, but with the sun shining we’re getting there now.”
