Swathed rape a mixed bag
“It looks the best crop I‘ve ever grown and is the only one in the area that has stayed standing,” says grower Jonathan Miall.
Swathing contractor John Bennett of R&J Ingles expects to cut around 600-730ha (1500-1800 acres) this year and reckons it will be a mixed bag.
“I‘ve seen some good and bad rape around – what‘s good looks really good, but there are some very poor crops around as well.
“But this rain and wind will have tossed it around considerably.”
Yield-wise he predicts an average year where rape established well, “but where it wasn‘t it‘ll be very poor”.
