Waiting game in Wilts

Today’s (July 27) rain meant harvest had come to a standstill for David Hues at Galteemore Farm in Wiltshire.

Expert oilseed rape had started to yield at 3.1-3.75t/ha, butthe moisture yesterday of 18% meant was too high to cut.

“I’m just waiting for the moisture to drop and the rain to clear,” said Mr Hues.

Crops were “coming on too quickly” with worries they will all be ready to cut at the same time, he added.

“We should be ok without heavy rain or thunderstorms.”
