Wheat disappoints growers in
Einstein wheat yields disappointed Tim Lock of Houghton Farm near Arundel,
Mr Lock completed 64ha (160 acres) of Einstein last week. It yielded 3 t/acre (7.5 t/ha) with 13% protein, Hagbergs of 250 and specific weight of 76 kg/hl.
He put yields at 1.25t/ha (0.5 t/acre) below average.
He said: “Yields are definitely down, but prices are significantly up.”
Also completed were 28ha (70acres) of Lioness and 28ha (70acres) of Es Astrid yielding on average 3.5 t/ha (1.4 t/acre).
Mr Lock had oats and spring barley yet to harvest and said: “We are on track to get them done by mid-August.”
