Wheat harvest started in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire farmer Peter Wilson had started cutting a field of Soissons winter wheat in Oxfordshire. The crop was on lighter land, and he said it was too early to tell the yield but it was “not spectacular”.

It was an early start, he said: “The rest of the oilseed rape wasn’t ready so we thought it was a chance to get some of the straw from the wheat.”

Oilseed rape was struggling on lighter land, he said. Round-up had been applied to the last few bits that were not quite ready.
