Based on the average of the control varieties, the top winter wheat yield of 14.54t/ha was achieved on the Leicestershire site (drilled 1 October 2014), says AHDB.
This was closely followed by the Teesside site with a yield of 14.26t/ha (drilled 25 September 2014).
For spring barley, seven sites have been harvested with a control average of 8.65t/ha, 1.19t/ha above the five-year average.
Control varieties at the site in Lincolnshire achieved an impressive yield of 10.13t/ha, while a site in Norfolk yielded 7.17t/ha.
Varieties
When selecting varieties, the five-year average values give a better representation of performance in different seasons.
At this stage, three Group 4 hard feed varieties are performing well – with Reflection, Evolution and Santiago all at 105%.
