Wheat yields down in straightforward harvest
Winter wheats came in more easily than expected at Phil Dowson’s High House Farm, Richmond, Yorkshire, where harvest finished last week (August 29).
“In the end it was a relatively straightforward harvest. But yields were disappointing.”
The 49ha (120 acres) of Robigus, Alchemy and Zebedee averaged 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre), with very little variation between first and second wheats.
The Zebedee and Robigus would both make biscuit quality, with good bushel weights and Hagbergs, said Mr Dowson.
He was now drilling oilseed rape, which he hoped to finish today (September 3).
