Winter barley has performed well at MC Thomson & Sons’ farm
Winter barley has performed well at MC Thomson & Sons’ farm in Clochan, Buckie, Scotland, and the spring barley looks promising.
Boost winter barley averaged over 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre), and a small 1ha (2.5 acres) trial plot of Volume produced 9.8t/ha (4t/acre). “It is a very light field so that was excellent,” said Frank Thomson.
The Optic, Oxbridge, Publican and trials of Forensic spring barley were still two to three weeks away. “It looking quite nice at the moment – but we don’t need any more rain until October.”
Winter rape would be ready in a fortnight, followed by the Robigus, Alchemy, and Predator winter wheat.
