Winter barley on Aberdeenshire farm finished

Sequel winter barley was completed last night by Jim Cargill at Coldstream Farm, Fettercairn, Aberdeenshire.

He said, “It’s been difficult to cut between the showers.”

The 68ha (170 acres) of Sequel yielded 9.75t/ha (3.9 t/acre) at 18% moisture.

Tuscan, Ontario and Lioness oilseed rape had also been completed with10-12% moisture.

After preliminary testing Mr Cargill expected oil contents to be lower though he thought yields should top 3.7 t/ha (30 cwt/acre).

Despite the rain today, Mr Cargill was pleased with progress so far. He had 28ha (70 acres) of winter oats which he hoped to begin this weekend. ”They looked alright,” he said.
