Winter linseed produced some pleasing results at AJ Baker & Sons’ Walnut Tree Farm
Winter linseed produced some pleasing results at AJ Baker & Sons’ Walnut Tree Farm, Rochester, Kent, yielding just over 2.5t/ha (1t/acre).
“We like the fact that it’s early, and it combines so much better than spring linseed,” said Richard Baker. Having grown 32ha (79 acres) of WintaLin this year he had already booked another 40ha (100 acres) for this autumn.
Mr Baker had also been cutting Ragtime pigeon peas in between the showers, which were yielding 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre). “I’m a bit disappointed in them – I had hoped for 4.3-4.9t/ha (1.75-2t/acre).”
However, the Solstice second wheat was more pleasing, yielding 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre) off the first 10ha (24 acres). “It looks promising,” he said.
