Winter wheat and spring beans so far as Ian Sparey waits for the sun

Harvest is still some three weeks away at Ian Sparey’s Tryfan Barn Farm, Clifton-on-Teme, Worcester.

“We’ve only got winter wheat and spring beans and we need some good sunny weather to ripen it up,” he said. “One of two of our neighbours ventured into barley yesterday and some are having a look at the rape.”

The 51ha (125 acres) of Einstein looked very well, as did the 32ha (80 acres) of Ben spring beans, he added.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
