Yorks wheat yields down by 10-12%
Wheat yields were about 10-12% down on average at Derek Lamplough’s Manor Farm, Scarborough, Yorkshire, but quality was reasonably good.
The 61ha (150 acres) of Zebedee and Robigus yielded 8.6-9.3t/ha (3.5-3.75t/acre) and would all make biscuit standard, he said. “We have just 20ha (50 acres) of wheat left to do, which should take half a day – the contractors will be back in two or three days time.”
Mr Lamplough finished his 61ha (150 acres) of Tipple spring barley last week, averaging just under 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) at 1.6% Nitrogen.
“There’s still a bit to do in this area – there must be 20% left, but give it three or four days of good weather and it will be a different picture,” he said.
