Dairy Crest Direct drops formula milk price for fourth month running

Dairy Crest Direct’s formula milk price will fall to 31.261p/litre for February.

The standard litre milk price paid will be 0.228p/litre less than in January, as the price drops for the fourth consecutive month.

The formula price, launched in March last year, is calculated by tracking five costs: bulk cream, four pints of retail liquid milk, concentrates, fertiliser and red diesel.

February’s price was based on lower cream prices and higher fertiliser and fuel costs, while retail milk prices and feed costs remained static.

The price has been falling steadily since November and now sits 1.129p/litre below the standard liquid price. But, for five of the 11 months completed since March, the formula price has been higher than the standard price.
