Welsh government reshuffles farm and environment team

Wales has a new ministerial team for farming and the environment after first minister Carwyn Jones carried out a Cabinet reshuffle.

Welsh Labour AM Carl Sargeant has been handed the post of natural resources minister. Mr Sargeant represents Alyn and Deeside and switches from his previous role as minister for housing and regeneration.

Former minister for natural resources in Wales Alun Davies has been among the first to welcome the appointment of his successor.

Mr Davies, who was sacked from his post after requesting information on farm subsidies paid to opposition politicians, took to Twitter to congratulate Mr Sargeant, saying: “Delighted! Really good news.

John Griffiths had briefly held the post after Mr Davies’ departure, but he lost his position in the Cabinet following the reshuffle on Thursday (11 September).

Meanwhile Rebecca Evans AM for mid- and west Wales has also had her role as deputy minister for agriculture and fisheries changed to deputy minister for farming and food.
