Pleasing harvest at Wold Farm

Paul Temple is preparing to get started on combining winter wheat at Wold Farm, Driffield, Yorkshire, and is fairly pleased with the year so far.

“We’ve just finished the winter barley and oilseed rape, with everything going well up until now,” he said.

The 11ha of Glacier winter barley yielded a pleasing 9.8t/ha, although it did have to be put through the drier.

Expower oilseed rape also yielded well, at 4.7t/ha. 

“We’ve now got about 140ha of wheat to cut, which we haven’t been able to make a start on as yet,” said Mr Temple.

Not many farmers in the area had managed to cut much wheat yet, so there was plenty still left to go at in between the showers, he added.

“Considering the season we’re fairly pleased. Everything’s looking as well as can be expected and we’re keeping going when we can.”
