21,000gns top for Parkhouse Limousins

Limousin buyer Peter Smith made yet another top-notch addition to his Ironstone herd in Oxfordshire when he gave 21,000gns at a reduction sale from Tom Cheshire’s Parkhouse herd at Carlisle this week.

His purchase, the eight-year-old imported French cow Ovee B, is by Jordy and out of a dam by Donjuan.

She was suckling an October-born heifer calf by Ferry and had been AI’d in March to Nobel.

Making more hefty investments for his expanding pedigree herd at Carnforth, Lancashire, was David Kelly.

He paid 16,000gns for the maiden heifer Parkhouse Angel, a Nobel daughter, and 15,000gns for the maiden heifer Parkhouse Adele.

She is by Ronick Hawk and out of a French cow by Papillon.

The Parkhouse herd is relocating from its home at Workington, Cumbria.

Peter Smith and David Kelly were both active bidders for stock from the Montgomery herd of mid-Wales breeder Richard Jones, but the top call of 3800gns came from J & B Smith of Glasgow for Montgomery Unouche.

By the Dauphin son Lasso and with a Beef Value of +29 – a breed top 10% ranking – she was offered with her yearling heifer calf by Mynach Sporty, who was 2004 Royal Welsh Show breed champion.

Norman Cruickshank’s Normande herd in Lanarkshire consigned 34 head, which reached 4200gns when Cumbria breeder Johnny Thompson took Aldwyck Sacha.

This third calver is by Hartside Hensingham and out of a Dauphin dam. She was suckling a June-born heifer calf by Ravageur.

Top averages: Normande – 20 cows and heifers ÂŁ2233, Montgomery – 32 cows and heifers ÂŁ2009, Parkhouse – 25 cows and heifers ÂŁ2937.
