Americans buy UK Aberdeen Angus record bull for 75,000gns

A new UK record price for an Aberdeen Angus bull has been set, with one of the most fancied entries for next week’s bull sales at Stirling, Balmachie Black Bear, selling for 75,000gns in a private sale to American breeders 8G Livestock of Texas.

The bull, which is is a Rawburn Lord Ross son out of Blelack Blackbird, a Blelack Lord Hornblower daughter, was bred in John Lascelles Balmachie herd at Carnoustie, Angus.

He has previously been National Aberdeen Angus calf show junior champion and reserve overall in 2008, Royal Highland junior champion and reserve male champion in 2009 and overall champion at the National Calf Show at Agri-Expo last October, too.

Half the semen rights for the bull have been retained by the Balmachie herd, with the Texan team already hard at work selling semen with negotiations for the bull’s purchase ongoing for the last week.
