Arson suspected in Cornwall barn fire case

Police in Cornwall are treating a barn fire on a farm in the county as suspected arson.

The alarm was raised at about 2am on Saturday 13 August at a farm at Treen, near St Levan in west Cornwall.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Appliances from Penzance, St Just and Helston attended and found the open-fronted barn, containing straw bales, well alight.”

The blaze reached its peak at 3am and firefighters were forced to put on breathing apparatus in the dense smoke.

A spokesman added that crews enlisted the help of the farm owner who used machinery to break down burning bales.

Devon & Cornwall Police were called out as fire crews became suspicious that incident could be a case of arson.
