British Sugar has announced dates for the opening of new sugar beet factories.

The processor plans to open four new factories this month for processing the 2013-14 crop. The Newark, Nottinghamshire and Wissington, Norfolk sites will open on 17 September, Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk will open on 19 September and Cantley, Norfolk on 24 September.

British Sugar’s agriculture director Colm McKay said: “This season’s campaign start dates have been chosen to strike a balance between grower harvesting plans, maximising the crop potential and deliveries of sugar to our customers.”
