Event set to highlight rewards of nature-positive farming

At LEAF we know that the transition to more sustainable, resilient farming systems isn’t something any one organisation or farmer can do alone. It’s built on collaboration, peer-to-peer learning, and practical, on-farm innovation.

That’s why we’re excited to highlight a powerful example of this approach in action.

Our forthcoming demonstration and knowledge exchange event on 9 October, hosted by Renner Farms in Northumberland – one of our longest standing Demonstration Farms – will bring together farmers, researchers, and industry partners to share insights from the NUE-Leg project.

An on-farm research collaboration focusing on nitrogen use efficiency in legume-based systems.

With input from Aberystwyth University – a LEAF Innovation Centre and one of the lead researchers on the NUE-leg project, one of our longest standing members Hutchinsons, together with specialists in genetics and agri-tech, we’ll be presenting the science behind the project and the trial plots you’ll see on the day a really great example of science working hand-in-hand with on-farm practice.

The event also coincided with Barclays’ announcement of support for farming systems that deliver environmental benefits – evidenced through number of government schemes and assurance schemes including LEAF Marque.

This is part of a growing movement in the financial sector to help de-risk the transition to more sustainable agriculture.

For farmer John Renner, who’s been directly involved in the NUE-Leg project, the benefits have been clear:

“Being part of this collaboration has helped us trial new ideas with confidence, get support from others, and really see the value of sustainable changes,” he says.

Events like this are a chance to see real-world examples of innovation, meet those leading the change, and explore opportunities to get involved.

It’s proof that when we work together – farmers, researchers, industry and finance – we can make sustainable farming work for everyone.

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a charity that promotes and supports more sustainable farming to create a resilient food and farming system for future generations.

We connect: We connect farmers, innovators and industry to understand best practice sustainable farm management and how it can be applied most effectively to each farm’s unique situation.

We build trust: We provide assurance that growers are farming more sustainably through our independently audited LEAF Marque certification; from the health of their soils to how they engage with local communities.

We educate: Our team of qualified educational specialists work with schools, citizens and farmers across the UK to bring sustainable farming to life, both in schools and on-farm. LEAF promotes more regenerative farming through Integrated Farm Management (IFM). It is a whole farm business approach that uses the best of modern technology and traditional methods.
