Opportunity to join exciting agroforestry project
© LEAF The monetary value of trees remains focused on forestry, timber, and bio-fuel enterprises. Despite trees being a key part of an Integrated Farm Management approach as well as for sequestration, air quality, and landscape aesthetics, agroforestry as a farm practice has not been widely applied across the UK (currently only 3% of farmland is dedicated to agroforestry).
We understand that farmers require better access to advice, experts, and insight into how and where to plant trees strategically and how to ensure trees establish and thrive. With this in mind, we are excited to announce a NEW one year ‘Exploring Agroforestry Project’, after receiving another round of funding from The Linder Foundation.
Supported by the Forestry Commission, Scottish Forestry and agroforestry consultants, eight lucky farmers will be supported and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue agroforestry on their farm.
The selected farms will then go on to become practical examples of the challenges and solutions to implementing agroforestry, with the opportunity to join the LEAF Network and become a LEAF Demonstration Farm.
In a nutshell, the project will involve:
- One to one support with designing an agroforestry system
- Expert knowledge and advice
- Peer-to-peer learning opportunities
- Visits to agroforestry sites and tree nurseries
- Practical workshops
- A highly collaborative experience
- Monitoring and reporting
So, if you are farmer/landowner with a genuine ambition to integrate trees across your farm, produce food more sustainably, and willing to share your experiences and stories with others, then this project is for you!
For further details on the project, please read the full project overview (PDF).
Please send your application form to Project Lead, Eleanor Marks via eleanor.marks@leaf.eco by Friday 1st March! Interviews will be arranged with successful applicants from 18th March.
Good luck!

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a charity that promotes and supports more sustainable farming to create a resilient food and farming system for future generations.
We connect: We connect farmers, innovators and industry to understand best practice sustainable farm management and how it can be applied most effectively to each farm’s unique situation.
We build trust: We provide assurance that growers are farming more sustainably through our independently audited LEAF Marque certification; from the health of their soils to how they engage with local communities.
We educate: Our team of qualified educational specialists work with schools, citizens and farmers across the UK to bring sustainable farming to life, both in schools and on-farm. LEAF promotes more regenerative farming through Integrated Farm Management (IFM). It is a whole farm business approach that uses the best of modern technology and traditional methods.
