Farmers offered free health checks at the United Counties Show
THE FARMERS Union of Wales is urging farmers attending the United Counties Show at Carmarthen to take up its offer of free health MOTs.
“Sometimes farmers take better care of the machinery on their farms than they do of their own health,” said Peter Davies, the union’s county executive officer.
“On our stand we are providing free lifestyle checks, measuring such things as blood pressure and body fat percentage.”
Pharmacist Richard Evans, who will conduct the tests, will use the results to offer advice on the risk of developing cardiovascular disease over the next decade.
“It could be described as an MOT check up for farmers who are too busy to pop into town for such tests,” claimed Mr Davies.
The initiative is also designed to show farmers the wide range of professional health advice available at community pharmacies.
