DOUBLE TOP PRICE AT DISPERSAL SALE
THE HIGH-YIELDING Smeatonhall Holstein herd based at Nantwich, Cheshire, was dispersed to a top price of 1600gns (twice) and produced an average of 701 for 314 head on Tue, Jan 18.
First at 1600gns was the second-calver Smeatonhall Indro Flirt that gave 10,769kg as a heifer. This daughter of Riglio Juror Indro was out of the high production dam Moet Luxenburg Flirt that notched up two out of her first three yields at over 15,000kg. Indro Flirt was bought by Carmarthen dairy farmer A Richards.
Matching the bid was Mr Shropshire from Market Drayton who secured Smeatonhall Jordan Jostle, a November-calved heifer by Roylane Jordan. She was giving over 40kg on the day.
Another calved heifer with a high yielding pedigree was Smeatonhall Marker Rika. This November-calved heifer is by Southland Marker and out of an Eros 68 dam that produced five five-figure lactations from her six calvings. Buyers at 1400gns were J Lomax and Son of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Mr Richards was back in action to give 1450gns for the day”s highest-priced served heifer. Smeatonhall Gordon Deb is by Dellka Juror Gordon and out of the 15,000kg Moet Fatal Deb. She was AI’d in November to Picston Shottle.
Averages: 311 cows and calved heifers 762 (inc 33 heifer calves), 43 served heifers 700 and 59 maiden heifers 485.
