Farmworkers seek 6% pay increase
Farm workers are looking for a 6% pay increase and an increase in their holiday entitlement of one day.
The Transport and General Workers Union has submitted its Heads of Claim for the 2007 Agricultural Wage Negotiations.
It is asking for a 6% pay increase across all grades and the establishment of pension scheme.
A 6% increase would push the minimum rate for an adult standard worker from ÂŁ5.74/hr to ÂŁ6.08/hr.
The union is also looking for double time on Sundays and Bank Holidays and the revision of accommodation clauses to prevent “the exploitation of temporary workers”.
The Heads of Claim has been issued slightly earlier than normal because negotiations are due to take place in May, rather than June as normal.
