Fen farms in Lincs are relaunched

Eastern agent Brown & Co has just relaunched two Lincs arable Fen farms that were originally put on the market at the end of 2004.

Barrington House Farm at Holbeach, Spalding, which runs to 1845 acres, and 762-acre Chestnuts and Grange Farm at Algarkirk, near Boston, were both sold subject to contract to the same buyer earlier this summer.

However, the firm’s Tom White said the purchaser’s long-awaited funds had yet to appear.

“We’ve run out of patience and have decided to re-advertise.”

Mr White said he was confident the farms would sell eventually and has not lowered the guide prices – 8m for Barrington and 3.5m for Chestnuts and Grange.

But he admitted that the market for commercial units in the Fens was getting tougher, even though the land was so productive.

“People from outside the area tend to be wary of silts.”

Location also counted against the region, he added.

“It’s an area a lot of people would prefer not to live in.”
