First Milk launches Lake District regional cheese

First Milk, the UK’s largest dairy co-operative, has launched its own range of regional cheese.
The processor hopes its range of premium Cumbrian cheddar, produced at its Lake District creamery in Aspatria, Cumbria, will take advantage of growing consumer interest in regional food.
Jeff Halliwell, Managing Director of First Milk’s cheese business said: “No one has ever produced a cheese that communicates fully the heritage and qualities of Cumbria and the Lake District – until now.
“And because only local milk is used, we know the names of all of the farmers who supply us – to the extent that we feature three of them on pack.”
The mature, extra mature and smoky Cumbrian cheeses in the range will be available from specialist outlets in Cumbria and the northwest.
