Fixed fines for streaking students

Agricultural college students who stripped off and ran down the high street of a local Shropshire market town have received fixed penalty fines.

Up to 30 students from Harper Adams University College streaked down the main road in Newport at 6.15pm on a weekday evening, stunning motorists and shoppers, according to local newspaper, The Newport Advertiser.

The students, who were wearing just ties and shoes were taking part in a rugby club initiation ceremony.

Max Stringer, a member of Harper Adams University College rugby team, said the stunt was part of a tradition to welcome in the first year players.

But the police took a dim view of the high jinks.

PC Dave Parry said: “We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour and will be liaising closely with Harper Adams in an attempt to stop this from happening again.”

Harper Adams’ student services manager Bryony Allsop told Farmers Weekly: “Those involved have all been the subject of disciplinary procedures.

Sixteen have received £80 fixed penalty notices from the police and are going to be embarking on community service.”
