Fresh AF programme at Arla Foods © AF Group Young farmers and agri-professionals across the UK are being encouraged to apply for a fully funded development programme designed to build skills, industry knowledge, and business confidence.
Member-owned co-operative AF Group has opened applications for its Fresh AF 2026 programme, offering up to 20 places worth ÂŁ2,500 each.
The 2026 programme, titled “The Roots to Results”, will explore how decisions made on-farm and within agricultural supply chains influence the final food product reaching consumers.

The year-long initiative gives participants the opportunity to visit farms, processors and agricultural businesses across the supply chain, while taking part in workshops focused on management and communication skills.
Diverse experience
Fresh AF chairman Susie Emmett said the programme would introduce participants to a diverse variety of farming and food production systems throughout the UK.
“Every business visit, every talk and every conversation will add to the Fresh AF cohort’s strong understanding of different supply chains, the management choices and decisions being taken on farm and responses to market pressures,” she said.
The programme begins at AF Group’s headquarters near Norwich in September 2026.
It concludes in June 2027 with a final event where participants present what they have learned and how they intend to implement it within their careers.

Previous cohorts have visited businesses including Wildfarmed, Arla Foods, Dyson Farming, Euston Estate and Borough Market, alongside agricultural suppliers and overseas operations such as Timac Agro in France.
Career development
The programme is designed to support the next generation of people working in agriculture by enhancing practical knowledge, expanding professional networks and fostering innovation within the sector.
Adam Godwin, assistant farm manager for Sentry in North Norfolk, and a member of the 2025 cohort, described the experience as “invaluable”.
“The whole experience was brilliant – from the farm visits to the networking opportunities – and it’s given me the confidence to try new things,” he said.
Georgina Saunders, a graduate surveyor who also took part in the 2025 programme, said it had strengthened both her professional and personal development.
“From visiting innovative businesses to developing skills in communication and public speaking, the experience has given me the confidence to try new ideas and apply them in my role,” she said.
Applications for Fresh AF 2026 close on 31 May 2026 and those interested can apply via the website.
