Livestock Event 2014: Muller Wiseman cuts milk price by 1.2p/litre

Muller Wiseman has followed its competitors by cutting its milk price for farmers by 1.2p/litre.
Suppliers on non-aligned contracts will be paid 30.8p/litre from 3 August.
Earlier this week First Milk dropped its manufacturing price by 1.25p/litre and its liquid price by 1.75p/litre, after Arla cut its price by 1.23p/litre from July.
Dairy Crest has announced it will hold its liquid and manufacturing contract prices for August.
Muller’s head of group milk supply Martin Armstrong said market conditions remained challenging with lower cream and butter returns but the company were still determined to pay its farmers a leading milk price.
Roddy Catto, Muller Wiseman milk group board chairman, said he hoped the milk price corrections were behind us, as the UK had passed peak production and global commodities were stabilising.
“We share the Company’s view that the dairy industry’s prospects look strong and whilst we are disappointed with any reduction in milk price, we remain optimistic for the future,” he said.
