British beef in the spotlight at Miami trade show

British beef exporters have been gearing up to benefit from the Economic Prosperity Deal agreed with the US, showcasing their produce at a key industry event in Miami this week.
Levy body the AHDB supported efforts at the Americas Food and Beverage Show held in Miami (10-12 September), recognised as a powerful platform for companies targeting markets in North American, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

“While we’ve been promoting beef, lamb and pork, the timing is ideal for promoting British beef in particular in the US with the announcement of the Economic Prosperity Deal,” said Susana Morris, AHDB senior trade development manager.
Perfect platform
The deal will enable the UK to ship 13,000t of beef tariff-free to the US each year, and attending shows like this, the AHDB said, provides the perfect platform for UK exporters to showcase their products to buyers.
“The show holds strategic geographic importance in Miami, serving as a key hub for buyers not only from the US, but also from Latin America and the Caribbean,” added Ms Morris.
Exciting market for red meat
UK agriculture attaché to the US Will Surman, who visited the AHDB stand during the show, said the US remains one of the UK’s most exciting markets for red meat.
“It is a net importer of lamb and the world’s largest consumer of beef,” he said.
“While the US is a big pork exporter, its volume of imports is significant and expected to rise, presenting opportunities for premium pork products from the UK.”
Taking part in international trade shows such as the American Food and Beverage event, he added, is a crucial way of capitalising on improved market access wins, like beef into the US.
