Busy spring sees farms of various sizes hit the market

A busy spring for land launches is showing no signs of slowing.  

In Somerset the 1,065-acre Kingsdon Estate near Somerton is on the market for the first time in 150 years.

Let on farm business tenancies until September 2018, about 780 acres is in wheat, barley, oilseed rape, beans and maize, earning a rental income of £115,000/year.

The balance of the acreage is 150 acres of woodland and some small blocks of pasture.

There are limited buildings and no house but planning permission has been applied for to convert one barn into a three-bedroom home.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt says the guide price is £7m as a whole but Kingsdon is available in up to six lots.

Auchentaggart Farm

Typifying the surge in Scottish land supply, CKD Galbraith has launched a 760-acre stock farm near Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway.

Auchentaggart Farm rises from 150m to 860m and a range of buildings support the owner’s beef and sheep operation.

It is available at offers over £1.7m.

Horncastle Farm

Horncastle Farm at Kirkwhelpington in Northumberland has 330 acres of predominantly grassland, which includes 112 acres of ridge and furrow land, 35 acres of arable and 22 acres of woodland.

The outgoing tenant, who leaves in November, has put the land in an Organic Entry Level Scheme which expires in October 2018.

It has a guide price of £1.55m with H&H Land and Property.
