Massive entry at Co. Tyrone cattle sale

Another massive entry of 1,556 cattle met with very strong demand in all sections at Saturday’s (9 April) sale. In the fatstock ring, bulls sold to 144p/kg, steers to 175p/kg and heifers to 166p/kg. Well-fleshed Friesian cows sold from 100p to 120p/kg. Store bullocks commanded very good trade, peaking at £1,215 for a 720kg bullock and £1,145 for a 630kg heifer.

“Demand remains very strong for suitable stock in the dairy cow section, with an Omagh producer selling two calved heifers to make £1,500 and £1,380,” said auctioneer Rodney Robinson. Suckler cows sold to £1,850 for a pedigree Limousin cow with a bull calf at foot, while young Limousin bull calves reached £335 and reared calves topped at £552.
