Meat and Livestock Commission appoints new chief executive

The Meat and Livestock Commission’s board of commissioners has appointed Richard Lowe as chief executive.

Previously the MLC’s consumer affairs director, Mr Lowe succeeds Kevin Roberts, who is set to become Levy Board UK’s interim chief executive.

Mr Lowe said the MLC had a lot to deliver over the next 12 months and there was no time to “take our eye off the ball.”

“There are big issues facing the British meat and livestock industry, including meeting the challenge of climate change, issues around diet and health and the need to improve our competitiveness within the global marketplace,” he added.

The MLC also announced Peter Barr has agreed to extend his position as chairman for a further 12 months to 31 March 2008.

Eight other MLC Commissioners also extended their appointments until 2008, including deputy chairman Paul Kirk, Helen Browning, Richard Cracknell, John Cross, Dr Kevin Hawkins, Stewart Houston, Professor Richard Moody and Neil Stoddart.
