Milk production continues to decline

UK milk production during June was down again on previous years, according to provisional Rural Payments Agency figures.
Wholesale deliveries totalled 1122.4m litres last month, 5m litres below June 2008 and 13% (168.6m butterfat adjusted litres) below the Farmers Weekly/ Charles Holt quota profile.
On a cumulative basis, production for the 2009/10 milk year stood at 3468m litres, also around 13% below the butterfat-adjusted quota profile.
According to DairyCo, UK milk deliveries have fallen consecutively for the last five years and June’s total was the lowest in the UK since the 1971/72 milk year.
DairyCo Datum has recently published two documents exploring the milk supply situation and the factors that affect a sustainable dairy supply chain.
