New land-based engineering degree on offer

Grimme UK and Brooksby Melton College in Leicestershire are jointly offering two new HNC courses in land-based engineering and business management.

Grimme UK has been training its apprentices at the college for several years. That programme will continue, but there will also now be an opportunity for students to move on to study at a higher level.

The college hopes to recruit the first groups of students for a start in September 2014. They will spend blocks of two to three weeks at the college, with the rest of their time in the farm machinery industry

The idea behind offering a HNC level programme, says the college, is to bridge the gap between the practical skills-based Level 3 apprenticeship courses and higher theoretical degree-level programmes in the land based sector.

This, it says, should give students a good blend of high-level technician skills and the underpinning theoretical knowledge needed to help them in the next stages of their careers. It will also help to futureproof the industry by providing employees who are able to cope with ever more sophisticated equipment.
