NFU offers free membership to agricultural students

Students are being offered free membership of the NFU, in a bid to get younger people more involved in the organisation.

The initiative is open to all students studying full or part time agricultural, land-based or related courses throughout England and Wales and is designed to support them through their studies by providing access to resources and discounts.
 
Huw Hilditch Roberts, NFU head of membership, said: “This new category recognises students as the future of the industry and encourages them to get involved with the NFU and understand the work we do – with the hope they will then understand why they should join as full members in the future.
 
“It reflects the NFU’s commitment to breathe life into the future of British farming by supporting the people who represent that future. No other farming organisation has the depth of expertise or the ability to influence decision–making and legislation at the very highest levels and we want the future generations to come and join us.
 
“There are so many reasons to be a member and we are calling on all younger farmers who want to ensure the future of Britain’s farming community to come and join us today.”
 
As members, students will have access to the members’ area on NFU Online and resources including more than 200 Business Guides and sector-specific newsletters, as well as receiving the NFU’s weekly email Bulletin.

They will also receive other member benefits including 20% off trailer training and the chance to gain the Welfare of Animals in Transport certificate for £30 plus VAT.
 
Prof Wynne Jones, principal and chief executive of Harper Adams University College, said: “I’m thrilled the NFU has decided to create an exclusive membership category for students. The NFU can provide a wealth of information of educational value and expertise that will really benefit students from their first to final years of study.”
