NFU takes British farming message to Cameron
The NFU president will go to Number 10 today (19 September) to highlight the organisation’s Farming Delivers for Britain campaign message.
Peter Kendall will join other agricultural leaders for a farming lunch with the Prime Minister to discuss how politicians and business can work with farmers to capitalise on opportunities in the sector.
Mr Kendall will ask David Cameron to back British food both for the domestic and export markets.
He will underline the industry’s readiness to provide the resources needed to expand the industry, while recognising the challenges that lie ahead.
He said that all sectors of agriculture including farmers and retailers and politicians need to show commitment and innovation for farming to grow.
He said: “Farmers will more than ever have to demonstrate a willingness to innovate and to adopt new technologies and techniques”.
“Politicians need to recognise that they can shape the environment to enable farming to grow, such as through a planning system that acknowledges the importance of food production and a tax system that rewards rather than hampers capital investment.”
