Scottish government confirms cuts to 2025 payment rates

The Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and greening payment rates for farmers and crofters in Scotland have been set for 2025, following an annual budget review by the Scottish government.
Landowners will receive marginally less than in 2024, but the shortfall is not as sharp as many in the sector had feared.
A BPS rate of £147.22/ha and a greening rate of £75.79/ha will create a combined rate of £223.01/ha for land in Region 1, which covers high-quality arable and grassland.

This represents a reduction of 37p/ha compared with the previous year.
Meanwhile, a combined rate of £45.27/ha will be paid for rough grazing land in Region 2, a drop of 11p/ha on the previous year.
Regional 3 land will receive £13.72/ha, down 3p/ha.
Payment rates are understood to have dropped slightly due to an increased number of entitlements for new entrants and young farmers.
The Scottish government is due to begin making advance payments in September.
